Back in the Saddle

Its been almost 2 weeks since I did any C25K training.  I spent last Wednesday driving all over Birmingham finishing our home study documents.  We got assigned our social worker today so it was totally worth it.  The other days it was either raining or miserably cold.

Today 2 friends that home school also joined us and it was a lot more fun for everyone.  The park we went to has 2 trails that are connected and the larger one is 3/4 of a mile.  We all did the big trail twice, even the 6yo girls and then one mom watched all the kids while I ran and mainly walked the short trail.  That's progress.  Friday we are going to another park that has a flat trail and I'm hoping to make it 2 miles.  I have not been following my C25K workouts because I'm wearing little man on my back instead I'm working on distance and once I get to my 3.1miles I'll work on time.  It may not be traditional but it is what works for us.

C25K day 3

I didn't finish.  Today I walk and jog for 1mile with almost 28lbs of toddler on my back in the ergo though.  The girls both did 3/4 of a mile too.  So even though I didn't do my 30 minutes I did do 20 minutes.  Yes it was slow but before I lost weight I weighed the same as me now + the toddler.  The last time I walked that track before I lost weight it took me 45 minutes to do that mile so I still see today as a victory.

Ouch!!!!

I burned my arm while cooking.  Grease splattered over a foot from the pan so my wrist didn't have a chance.  The doc didn't say how bad but he was shocked when I refused narcotic pain relief.  He also gave me a prescription for antibiotics but there is no broken skin so I'm going to hold of
f on those since he said they were "just in case" and I disagree strongly with just in case medicine.

C25K Day 2

Well day 1 part 2.  I did it today on a paved track with the twin stroller.  It was a lot harder to do and I didn't run every time because it was all I could do to walk fast with both the princess and the little man in the stroller.  The talker did run circles around me today like I knew she would.  The princess rode for half and ran for half and the little man slept.  It was hard but I did it and I recovered quickly which is good since I have Taekwondo in a bit.

Cotton Row Run

I'm running it at the end of May.  Its the last Monday and we have family in the area so the kids are covered.  Sarah is going go at least run the kids fun run but since she is training with me she may decide to do the big race if she is old enough.

Empathy

As part of our school we are going to work on one word every week that will encourage us to be better people.  Today's word is Empathy.  One definition called it social intelligence and another the beginning of compassion.  I see it as being able to understand the feelings and emotions of those around you and also to consider how your actions and comments will affect those around you.  Its putting yourself in someone elses shoes and choosing to not judge them when their decision is not the same one you would make.  As Christians we need to pay close attention to this word and let empathy moderate everything we say or do because it only takes one unempathetic action to either turn someone away from God or to ruin our testimony.  It is necessary to remember that not everyone has the same experiences we do and if we act like they are lacking because their knowledge is different they will never be open to our way of thinking.  Empathy is understanding that we are the pebble thrown in a still pond and considering what the ripples will do to those around us before we do something.

Wednesday take 3

I wrote one post yesterday morning and somehow the baby erased it.  I tried again yesterday afternoon from my phone and a phone call erased it.  I didn't get another chance so you get 2 for 1 today.

First----- I finished my first C25K workout yesterday.  My cardio fitness needs a lot of work.  Week 1 will last at least 2 weeks.  However I am not sore today so I do just have to work on the cardio fitness.  I do love my new running shoes and I am grateful that I found a sales associate at Champs that knew what we needed but also kept an eye on our budget.  Last time I got shoes at another store I paid more for the 1 pair that I hated in the end than I paid for 2 pair this time.  The shoe shopping also brought a milestone.  Our oldest is soon to be 9 and she got ladies shoes too.  Our feet are only 1/2 a size different.  I am short and we always knew she would be taller than me but I didn't expect things to start changing so soon.  She is only 6-8 inches shorter than me too so in the next year she will pass me in shoes and in less than 2 she will be taller than me.  How do you parent a child that is taller than you?  Not a teen a child or tween?  I have no idea because I'm 5 inches shorter than my mom but I guess I'll figure it out.

C25K

I have decided to do this http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml
I still have 30lbs to loose, I need to improve my cardio, and we will walk a lot in Eastern Europe when we get to go bring our son home so it makes sense. The oldest is going to run with me while I push the younger two in a fancy stroller.

Testing

Checking to see how the blogger app for android works.  If it does then blogging during our adoption should be easier.  Maybe not as full of pictures and doo-dads but at least functional and fast.
